WORK VISA INFORMATION
The E-3 is a new visa category
available only to Australian citizens. The E-3 Treaty
Professional Visa is a temporarily work visa. It is usually
issued for 2 years. United States legislation limits the E-3
visa to nationals of Australia. The primary E-3 work visa
applicant must be going to the United States to work in a
specialty occupation. The spouse and children of the main
E-3 visa applicant need not be Australian citizens. Spouses
of E-3 visa holders are entitled to E-3D (dependent) visas
and work authorization. For more details visit:

CONSULATE
OF AUSTRALIA / HOUSTON
The Consulate, headed by Honorary Consul Nana Booker, was
established in 1998 to provide assistance and protection
to Australian citizens. Assistance includes helping with
certification and interviews for passports; furthering Australian
commercial, cultural, educational, scientific and technological
interests; increasing public awareness of Australia; serving
as a representative of Australia at ceremonial and public
affairs events; assisting with the visits of Australian
officials; maintaining relations with the City of Houston
and State of Texas; and as needed, helping Australian citizens
in emergency situations or with other problems.
The
office receives 50 - 75 calls per week, with questions related
to everything from how to renew an expired Australian passport
to who can help capture a wild emu to how to invest in Australian
businesses.
The Honorary Consul conducts interviews for passports, witnesses
and certifies documents, and maintains a small, but growing,
library of materials about Australia. The Consulate serves
the State of Texas, and is part of the Washington, DC consular
district.
