E-3 WORK VISA INFORMATION
 

The E-3 is a new visa category available only to Australian citizens. The E-3 Treaty Professional Visa is a temporarily work visa. It is usually issued for 2 years. United States legislation limits the E-3 visa to nationals of Australia. The primary E-3 work visa applicant must be going to the United States to work in a specialty occupation. The spouse and children of the main E-3 visa applicant need not be Australian citizens. Spouses of E-3 visa holders are entitled to E-3D (dependent) visas and work authorization. CONSULATE OF AUSTRALIA / HOUSTON
The Consulate, headed by Honorary Consul Nana Booker, was established in 1998 to provide assistance and protection to Australian citizens. Assistance includes helping with certification and interviews for passports; furthering Australian commercial, cultural, educational, scientific and technological interests; increasing public awareness of Australia; serving as a representative of Australia at ceremonial and public affairs events; assisting with the visits of Australian officials; maintaining relations with the City of Houston and State of Texas; and as needed, helping Australian citizens in emergency situations or with other problems.

The office receives 50 - 75 calls per week, with questions related to everything from how to renew an expired Australian passport to who can help capture a wild emu to how to invest in Australian businesses.
The Honorary Consul conducts interviews for passports, witnesses and certifies documents, and maintains a small, but growing, library of materials about Australia. The Consulate serves the State of Texas, and is part of the Washington, DC consular district.
