presented by the Booker Lowe Gallery in the foyer of
the Wortham Center and attend the Dance Talk prior to
the performance.
Madame Butterfly is
a moving tale of a
beautiful geisha’s love and loss has never been told
more eloquently than in Stanton Welch’s exquisite,
two-act rendition. Cio-Cio San gives up her faith and
her family to wed the handsome but cynical Lieutenant
Pinkerton. In giving so much, she risks losing
everything.
Red Earth is a
moving ode to the settlers who tamed the Australian
Outback. This performance is an abstract work that
explores issues early immigrants in Australia faced
when arriving in a new and foreign land. For more information on the 2 performances visit

Dance Talks:
Dance Talks
are held 45 minutes prior to each performance in the
Grand Foyer’s Cullen Alcove at the Wortham Theater
Center.
The
Talks, present an opportunity
for audience members to meet the dancers,
choreographers, and musicians who make the ballet come
to life. The audience can also participate in a brief
question and answer session which allows them to
directly interact with the speakers and learn more
about upcoming performances.
The Booker Lowe Gallery presents
in
the foyer of the Wortham Center from the 8 March 2007:
Voices from the Red
Earth: Australia’s Aboriginal Artists Paint Their
Stories
Beginning in the early 1970s, Australia’s indigenous people
began to paint their ancient traditions onto canvas,
launching what critics have called the “last great art
movement of the twentieth century. Today, major
museums and collectors are attracted by the
sophisticated colors, powerful markings, and palpable
energy of works created by artists from the world’s
oldest living culture.
Booker-Lowe Gallery, the only American art gallery devoted
exclusively to Australian contemporary and Aboriginal
art, is proud to partner with the Houston Ballet to
show paintings from the Central and Western Deserts.
Included in the exhibition are paintings by Bruce
Wungunien, Jean Nampijimpa Hudson, Lorna Fencer
Naparrula, Cathleen Edwards, Evelyn Judgadai, Gracie
Green, Judy Watson Napangardi, Lorna Brown Napanangka,
Mitjili Naparrula, and Raymond Maxwell Tjampitjinpa,
as well as a piece by Kimberleys wandjina painter,
Lily Karadada.

forces during the First World War. ANZAC stands for
Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in
those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the
pride they soon took in that name endures to this day.
